Kingroon KP3S 3.0
About the Kingroon KP3S 3.0
The Kingroon KP3S 3.0 is a cantilever-style 3D printer with a build volume of just 180 x 180 mm. This machine has linear rails along its X and Y axes and a direct, PTFE-lined Titan-style extruder with a 3:1 gear ratio. The KP3S has a tiny 2.4-inch touchscreen integrated into the base which sports a flexible magnetic textured film. The printer’s 32-bit mainboard with removable TMC2225 stepper drivers also has a free slot to add auto bed-leveling, such as the BLtouch-like “3D Touch” offered by Kingroon. We found the little machine to print its full Z volume with admirable stability. There’s a little bit of wobble at the very top, but it’s barely noticeable – surpassing expectations. If you want to reduce it further, opting for the slightly more expensive KP3S Pro, which swaps the Y-axis linear rails for a smooth-riding Z, would be a good bet. The Kingroon KP3S 3.0 is an ideal budget choice for those taking their first steps into 3D printing or who want a cheap and cheerful machine around to try their hands at modding.
Benefits of the Kingroon KP3S 3.0
Modern mainboard features - Many 3D printer features relate to the version of the mainboard and firmware, including features like resuming prints after a power failure and support for silent stepper motor drivers for quieter printing. Newer boards also include safety features like thermal runaway protection which shuts the printer down if it detects issues with overheating.
Has touch screen - having a touch screen isn't a deal-maker or breaker, but it is a convenient feature that makes it easier to navigate the interface when you are printing files and configuring 3D printing settings.
Easy to assemble - This 3D printer is shipped with most of the parts pre-assembled, and you will only need to attach a few components and connect a couple cables in order to get the machine ready to print.
Direct drive extruder - Direct drive extruders are mounted right above the hot end, and push the filament directly into it, as opposed to a side mounted bowden extruder setup. We prefer direct drive extruders to bowden since they are less prone to jamming and typically require less maintenance. they also are much easier to use with flexible materials
Affordable - This printer does not include a lot of frills, but offers a good experience for a low price point. While this low price means you won't be getting the most premium features, you can still get a lot out of these machines if you are willing to put up with some missing quality of life features.
Linear rail motion system - Linear rails provide added stability to the moving parts of the printer, allowing higher printing speeds without sacrificing quality. Keep in mind that the most important factor to consider when optimizing for print speed is the flow rate of filament, which depends on the hot end and nozzle size moreso than the motion system.
Disadvantages to consider
Manual bed levelling - This printer requires you to to adjust the bed level manually using nuts on each corner of the print bed. Once you have calibrated the bed leveling, you may need to adjust the levelling knobs periodically to ensure good first layer adhesion to the print bed.
Where to buy the Kingroon KP3S 3.0
Brand Summary: Kingroon
Founded in 2015, Kingroon focuses on creating user-friendly 3D printers at affordable prices. Their printers come partially assembled with clear instructions, making them a good choice for beginners. Features like automatic bed leveling on many models further simplify the setup process. Kingroon strives to offer a complete 3D printing experience, but it's important to consider potential drawbacks. Customer support can be inconsistent, and unlike some competitors, Kingroon doesn't have a dedicated forum or user group. This lack of direct support might be a hurdle for those who prefer readily available assistance. However, the broader 3D printing community online offers a wealth of resources and helpful users who can answer questions and troubleshoot issues. Overall, Kingroon printers are a solid option for budget-conscious beginners and hobbyists who prioritize affordability and user-friendliness. They should be comfortable navigating online resources for troubleshooting or seeking help from the wider 3D printing community.
