LulzBot TAZ SideKick 289 KT-PR0057
About the LulzBot TAZ SideKick 289 KT-PR0057
The LulzBot SideKick 289 is a highly configurable 3D printer that has a 162 x 181 mm print volume and includes auto bed-leveling via a BLTouch sensor. The as-built configuration has a direct drive SK175 toolhead, which is a 0.5mm brass nozzle toolhead that uses 1.75mm filament. Bed options include a borosilicate glass with PEI surface, or a PEI coated spring steel magnetic flex plate. The 3.2” LCD interface is a monochromatic screen with a knob for controlling your prints. A filament runout sensor is an added option. Much like the rest of LulzBot’s 3D printers, the SideKick features a completely open frame made of sturdy powder-coated metal. Since there’s no built-in enclosure, for higher temperature filaments like ABS, it may be necessary to carefully control the ambient temperature of the room itself to avoid warping and delamination issues. That aside, the smooth steel rods, self-lubricating linear bushings, angled extrusions, and Delrin V-wheels make the system feel unmistakably robust, as is expected of LulzBot printers. The SideKick also offers a maximum bed temperature of 110°C and a maximum nozzle temperature of 290°C with direct-drive extrusion, enabling the system to print with over 10 high-performance polymer filaments.
Benefits of the LulzBot TAZ SideKick 289 KT-PR0057
Auto bed leveling - auto bed leveling will ensure your prints have perfect first layers every time and greatly reduce issues with bed adhesion. When using an auto-leveling system, the probe allows better tolerances for slightly warped print beds by measuring and compensating for any inconsistencies. Without this feature, you'll need to adjust the bed level manually using nuts on each corner of the print bed.
Fully assembled - This 3D printer is shipped completely assembled, and is ready to plug in and start using as soon as you unbox it. You will still need to follow the included calibration procedures, but this will not take a significant amount of time.
Direct drive extruder - Direct drive extruders are mounted right above the hot end, and push the filament directly into it, as opposed to a side mounted bowden extruder setup. We prefer direct drive extruders to bowden since they are less prone to jamming and typically require less maintenance. they also are much easier to use with flexible materials
PEI build surface has good balance of adhesion and part removal - PEI beds are one of the more premium build surface options, and for good reason. They offer great first layer adhesion with no spraysor other treatments, and can be flexed to quickly remove parts. You'll need to clean the bed with a solvent like acetone or IPA every so often to maintain the bed's adhesion.
Disadvantages to consider
No touch screen - having a touch screen isn't a deal-maker or breaker, but it is a convenient feature that makes it easier to navigate the interface when you are printing files and configuring 3D printing settings.
Budget components - In order to keep costs down, this 3D printer uses more plastic pieces and other lower quality components
