Bigtreetech Panda Touch Specs and Information
|
The Panda Touch is a touchscreen controller for Bambu Lab 3D printers made by Bigtreetech, who produces a line of accessories for Bambu Lab’s machines. It provides a larger and more functional user interface than the built-in screen on most Bambu 3D printers, and offers additional capabilities for wireless monitoring and print farm management.
The Panda Touch is particularly beneficial for the Bambu Lab P1P and P1S, as the standard controller on those printers is a small monochrome text-based LCD screen that can be hard to read and is only able to show a limited amount of information about the printer’s status. In contrast, the Panda Touch has a much larger graphical display, which can display more status information and exposes more options and settings.
The controller includes a magnetic charging dock which mounts to the top of the printer. The dock draws power from a USB port hidden inside the printer frame, and in standard operation, the controller turns on and off with the printer itself. However, the Panda Touch also includes a battery with a 30-minute runtime, allowing you to remove it from the charging dock and use it to control or monitor the printer over WiFi.
On its user interface, the Panda Touch provides standard controls for heating the hotend and bed, moving the print head, and extruding filament. You can also print files from the printer’s microSD card as well as from a USB drive plugged into the controller’s USB-A port. During printing, the screen displays the progress of the print, as well as the current temperature of the printer’s hotend and bed.
If you have the Bambu AMS on a P1P or P1S, the Panda Touch is a particularly useful add-on because it allows you to configure the filament settings for each bay as soon as you load the filament. Although you can do this from the Bambu Handy smartphone app or Bambu Studio computer program, we found it convenient to be able to set the filament type and color directly on the controller while loading filament.
The Panda Touch also has compelling features for controlling a print farm of multiple Bambu Lab 3D printers. It’s able to connect to up to 10 printers, allowing you to easily monitor and control a fleet of machines with a single Panda Touch controller. Since the unit is wireless, you can also move it from machine to machine, or locate it in a central spot for easier monitoring. Bigtreetech has stated that they intend to sell additional charging docks to better support this use case.
